The BAA provides a syllabus to guide Aikido students in their learning and to help measure progress. Students are awarded coloured belts as they achieve the grades in the syllabus.
The Kyu Grade Syllabus covers all belts up to, but not including, black belt. Black belt and beyond is part of the Dan Grade Syllabus.
The Junior Kyu Grade Syllabus covers all belts up to, but not including, black belt. Juniors are required to grade to Senior Brown belt before grading to Black belt.
New Dan Grade Syllabus – from 1st July 2010 The introduction of the new syllabus on 1st July 2010, will be accompanied by a comprehensive programme of courses at each of the Summer Schools and BAA sponsored day courses in the regions to develop and support members technical understanding and development.
