Membership

Membership of the British Aikido Association is available to individuals and clubs located within the United Kingdom. By applying to join the Association the applicant agrees to abide by the Constitution, Bye-laws and working procedures of the BAA.

Foreign associations or groups located outside the United Kingdom, which have ideals similar to those of the BAA, are welcome to apply for affiliation at a fee of £20.00 per annum. In return the BAA will offer the group certain facilities. Further information may be obtained from the Chairman of the BAA.

Individual Full Membership

There are three rates for individual, or personal, full membership; the relevant rate being dependent upon the applicant’s status. All applicants must belong to a club registered with the BAA.

All these memberships are based on a 12-month period beginning at the date the Registrar of the Association processes the application. Please allow a minimum time of fourteen working days for processing.

Membership rates applicable from 1 March 2008 are as follows:

Annual membership fee for adults (18 years of age and above) £25.00
Annual membership fee for those below 18 years of age £15.00

concessionary rate of £15.00 a year is available for those in full-time education, unemployed for a period of not less than six months, or over the age of 60 years.

Applications should be forwarded to the Registrar of the BAA via the individual’s club administrator. Membership documentation will be returned to that same club officer. This helps to ensure minimal delays in processing as the local officer will have checked the application and membership fee for accuracy before submitting it and gives the club’s officer the opportunity to ensure that all their members' applications are processed correctly.

From 1 March 2008 the fee for club membership is £25.00 per annum.

Both initial applications and applications for renewal should be forwarded to the General Secretary of the BAA.

Applications from new clubs shall be considered for acceptance by the management body of the BAA, the Executive Committee (EC), and if approved, the club will be offered a first year of probationary membership.

All named instructors in a club are required to hold personal membership of the Association, current professional indemnity (PI) insurance, an approved coach award and have submitted (via the BAA) an application for a criminal records bureau check (CRB).
